Today, it is hard not to get lost in this diverse TV world. Thus, there is high definition television, which is characterized by images and sound of high quality. There is also smart-TV – television with integrated Internet. There is also 3D-television, which can only be watched with the help of special goggles.

Television for everyone

Television is one of the mass media with the largest audience of all.

Due to its accessibility everyone can watch television despite their age and social status. Some people get an update on the latest news; others watch soap operas and talk-shows.

However, television does not exist for information and entertainment only. It can also be educational. That is why students and little children may find it useful as well.

Television in our life

Television came to our life about 100 years ago, but nowadays there is hardly a household without a TV set. Despite the development of other sources of information, TV still remains one of the most important ones.

Телевидение является одним из средств массовой информации с самой обширной аудиторией.

Благодаря общедоступности, телевизор могут смотреть все, не зависимо от возраста и социального статуса. Некоторые смотрят по телевизору последние новости, другие – телесериалы и ток-шоу.

Однако, телевидение – это не только источник информации и развлечений. Оно также несет в себе образовательную функцию. Таким образом, оно может быть полезно студентам и маленьким детям.

Телевидение появилось в нашей жизни около 100 лет назад, но сегодня трудно найти семью, в которой не было бы телевизора. Несмотря на развитие других источников информации, телевидение по-прежнему остается одним из самых важных.

It is almost impossible to imagine our life without TV. It plays a great and a very important role in the life of modern man. There is practically no family that doesn’t have a TV set. TV is one of the mass media kinds. Radio and newspapers tell us about different events but TV not only tells but also shows. TV has a lot of channels and everybody can watch the programs he likes. Our television suggests various programs: talk show and game show, news and sporting events, about animals and about foreign countries and so on. Soaps-lovers can watch their favorite films almost every day. TV shows us a lot of films of different countries: detective and melodrama, comedy and triller. As former I like to see adventure films, fantasy, comedies. My favorite sporting events programs are about volleyball, swimming, track-and-field athletics and gymnastic. I watch many programs with great interest. These programs are: a wild nature program, “Anshlag”, some game shows and so on. There are a lot of films (most of them of foreign TV-companies) with a great number of corpses, with seas of blood now. It’s not very good to my mind. I think that one of the aims of TV is to bring up TV-viewers, to cultivate love to our country, kindness and other positive features of character.

Television in Our life

Television now plays an important role in our life. It is difficult to say if it is good or bad for us. It is clear, that television has advantages and disadvantages.

But are there more advantages than disadvantages? In the first place, television is an entertainment. But it is not only a convenient entertainment. For a family of three, four or five, for example, it is more convenient and less expensive to sit comfortably at home than to go out to find entertainment in other places. They don"t have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre or cinema. They turn on the TV-set and can watch interesting films, concerts, football matches.

But some people think that it"s bad to watch TV. Those who watch TV need do nothing. We are passive when we watch TV. Television shows us many interesting programmes. But again there is a disadvantage here: we watch TV every evening, and it begins to dominate our lives.

My friend told me that when his TV-set broke down, he and his family found that they had more time to do things and to talk to each other. There are other arguments for and against television.

Very often the programmes are bad. Sometimes the y show too much violence in films and news programmes. There is also too much pop music and ads. Ads on the whole are convenient for grown-ups. But is it good for children to watch all those ads where they show all kinds of underwear and what not?

Телевидение играет важную роль в нашей жизни. Трудно сказать, хорошо это или плохо. Ясно, что телевидение имеет свои преимущества и недостатки.

Но чего больше - преимуществ или недостатков? В первую очередь, телевидение - это развлечение. Но это не только удобные развлечения. Семье из трех, четырех или пяти человек, например, удобнее и выгоднее сидеть дома, чем куда-нибудь идти и искать развлечений в других местах. Им не надо оплачивать дорогие билеты в театр или кино. Они включают телевизор и смотрят интересные фильмы, концерты и футбольные матчи.

Но некоторые люди думают, что смотреть телевизор вредно. Телезрителям не надо ничего делать. Когда мы смотрим телевизор, мы пассивны. Телевидениедемонстрирует нам много интересных программ. Но в этом есть и недостаток: мы смотрим телевизор каждый вечер, и он начинает доминировать в нашей жизни.

Мой друг сказал мне, что когда у него сломался телевизор, то он и вся его семья обнаружили, что у них появилось больше времени на то, чтобы что-то сделать или поговорить друг с другом. Есть и другие аргументы «за» и «против» телевидения.

Часто показывают плохие программы. Иногда в фильмах и новостях много насилия. Также по телевизору показывают много поп-музыки и рекламы. В целом, реклама удобна для взрослых. Но разве полезно детям смотреть всю эту рекламу, где показывают разное нижнее белье и что угодно?

Телевидение – это большая сила. Оно повышает наш интеллектуальный уровень, дает возможность увидеть игру лучших актеров, услышать последние новости и стать свидетелями политических дебатов. Телевидение предоставляет нам уникальные образовательные возможности и помогает расслабиться после рабочего дня. Существует большой выбор телепрограмм, поэтому мы всегда можем выбрать то, что нравится нам. Телевидение приносит целый мир в нашу гостиную. Мы можем больше узнать о других странах, обычаях, ремеслах, высказываемых мнениях и проблемах. Каждый может выбрать программу на свой вкус: хроники текущих событий, документальные фильмы, спортивные и образовательные программы, художественные фильмы, пьесы, программы об искусстве, новости, эстрадные шоу и многие другие. Именно зритель решает, какая программа является наиболее интересной, ценной, информативной или смешной, и какую программу действительно стоит посмотреть.

Что касается меня, моими любимыми телевизионными каналами являются ОРТ, НТВ и Дискавери, потому что здесь я могу увидеть все, что мне интересно.

Другой взгляд

Однако, некоторые люди считают, что просмотр телепрограмм – пустая трата времени. Кроме того, это ведет к проблемам со здоровьем, перекусам у экрана телевизора, недостатку сна и ухудшению зрения. Они считают, что нельзя сидеть «приклеенным к ящику» вместо того, чтобы навещать друзей и родных. Они особенно сочувствуют детям, забывшим про книги и сделавшим телевизор своим главным развлечением.

Заключение

Я не могу сказать, что целиком разделяю данную точку зрения, но я согласен, что нужно дозировать просмотр телевизионных программ.

Televistion in modern life

I think it’s impossible to imagine our life without TV. It’s widely used in today’s world because it’s the quickest means of spreading news and information. It also plays a significant role in reflecting the life of our society.

TV is a great force

TV is indeed a great force. It enriches our intellect, gives us opportunities to see the best actors and performances, to hear the latest news, to listen to political discussions. TV gives wonderful possibilities for education and helps us to relax after a day’s work. There is a considerable variety of programs, so we can choose what we want to see. TV brings the world into our living room. We can learn more about other countries, customs, occupations, opinions and problems. Every person chooses a program which appeals to him most: current events, documentaries, sport and educational programs, films, plays, the arts, news, variety shows and many others. You always decide which program is the most exciting, valuable, informative or amusing and is worth seeing.

Favourite channels

As for me, my favourite TV channels are ORT, NTV and Discovery Channel because they satisfy my interests in the best way.

TV is a waste of time

However, some people believe that watching TV is a waste of time. Besides, it leads to poor health through rushed meals, lack of sleep and eyestrain. They think it’s not right to sit glued to the TV screen instead of visiting their friends and relatives. They feel especially sorry for those children who forget to read books making TV their main leisure activity.

Conclusion

I can’t say I share this opinion but I agree on the point that we should use TV reasonably.

There are two viewpoints on television. 9). Some people think that television is doing a lot of harm. 10). People begin to forget how to occupy their free time. 11). It prevents them from communicating with each other, from visiting friends, or relatives. 12). And indeed, people used to have hobbies, they used to go outside for amusements to the theatres, cinemas, sporting events. 13). They used to read books and listen to music. 14). Now all free time is given to television.

15). But there are a lot of people who consider TV to be helpful because it gives us a lot of information. 16). We become better informed by watching documentaries, science programs and by learning the most important economic, social and political issues of the day. 17). We can see famous people, great events that will pass into history. 18). Television gives wonderful possibilities for education: you can take a TV course in history, economy, in learning foreign languages and in many other subjects.

19). Television brings the world in your living-rooms. 20). We see people in our country and in other lands, and learn their customs, occupations, and problems. 21). TV gives us opportunities to see the best actors and performances, to hear the latest news, to listen to political discussions. 22). To crown it all, TV simply helps us to relax after a hard day"s work, giving a great variety of entertaining and musical programs.

23). Still, it"s not a good thing for children to be glued to the TV screen all day long. 24). It"s very harmful for their health and for developing personalities, because children prefer low-standard hits, horror films or banal serials. 25). All this by no means contributes to what we call making a personality.

Оно влияет на мировоззрение людей и заставляет менять свои взгляды. 4). Другими словами, средства массовой информации и, в особенности, телевидение формируют общественное мнение.

5). Миллионы людей любят смотреть телевизор в свободное время. 6). Телевизор сейчас не просто предмет обстановки. 7). Это как бы один из членов семьи. 8). Есть две точки зрения на телевидение. 9). Некоторые считают, что телевидение приносит много вреда. 10). Люди начинают забывать, как можно заполнить свободное время. 11). Оно мешает им общаться друг с другом, посещать друзей, родственников. 12). И в самом деле, раньше люди имели хобби, ходили развлечься в театры, кино, на спортивные состязания. 13). Они читали книги и слушали музыку. 14). Теперь всё свободное время отдаётся телевидению.

15). И всё же есть много людей, которые считают телевидение полезным, так как оно даёт нам много информации. 16). Мы становимся более осведомлёнными, когда смотрим документальные фильмы, научные программы, когда узнаём о наиболее важных экономических, общественных и политических новостях дня. 17). Мы можем увидеть знаменитых людей, значительные события, которые войдут в историю. 18). Телевидение даёт прекрасные возможности для образования: можно прослушать курс по истории, экономике, изучать иностранные языки и многие другие предметы.

19). Телевидение приносит целый мир в наш дом. 20). Мы видим людей в нашей стране и в других странах, узнаём об их обычаях, занятиях, взглядах, проблемах. 21). Телевидение даёт нам возможность увидеть лучших актёров и лучшие спектакли, услышать последние новости, послушать политические дискуссии. 22). И, наконец, телевидение просто помогает нам расслабиться после напряжённой работы, предлагая широкий выбор развлекательных и музыкальных программ.

23). И всё же не очень хорошо, когда дети целый день "приклеены" к экранам телевизоров. 24). Это вредит здоровью и развитию личности, так как дети предпочитают низкопробные боевики, фильмы ужасов или банальные сериалы. 25). Всё это ни в коем случае не способствует тому, что мы называем формированием личности.

- I can"t say so. In fact I only watch those programs that I find interesting and helpful.

- Well, I enjoy "The Travellers" Club" and "The World of Animals". They are regular TV programs. They help me to study history, geography, biology.

- There are plenty of them now. It goes without saying, that I try to watch the most important of them, "Vesti", "Time" and others. They keep me informed in all the topical issues of the day.
- What TV programs do you watch for entertainment?
- I relax when I watch musical shows, humorous programs, TV games such as "What? Where? When?", "The Lucky Chance", "Brain Ring" and others.
- What is your attitude towards advertising on TV?
- I find it boring and annoying.
